Palmengarten

Life in bloom: 150 year anniversary of the Palm Garden

150 years old and still a crowd puller: the Palm Garden in the heart of Frankfurt. In the early years of the garden, it was mainly exotic plants – above all, of course, palm trees – that attracted visitors, but today it is a variety of motifs: Some want to enjoy the lush greenery, stroll among flowering beds, unwind. Others want to learn more about plants, their origins, their secrets during guided tours and lectures. They want to travel around the world, because that’s what you can do in the Palm Garden in just one day. Within a very short time, a walk through the open air and the partly historic show houses takes you from Arizona to Madagascar, to the Alps, to Chile, even to Tasmania. And still others appreciate the Palm Garden for its diverse cultural and event program.

In its anniversary year, the Palmengarten is giving its visitors a new place to experience: the Blossom and Butterfly House. Tropical butterflies cavort there. The new exhibition “Dusted off. About flowers and their visitors” takes visitors into the world of insects, looks at their interaction with plants, and explains how pollination works and why it is so important.
