The DAM organizes temporary exhibitions on national and international themes of 20th/21st century architecture and urban planning. The permanent exhibition “From the primitive hut to the skyscraper” uses 25 model panoramas to illustrate the history of the development of architecture.

As a discussion center for current issues, it organizes conferences and workshops, issues numerous publications and is represented on national and international award juries. The educational program offers children, schoolchildren and adults access to architectural topics in a playful and practical way.

The architecture of the house was designed by the renowned Cologne architect Oswald Mathias Ungers. An abstract “house-within-a-house” was set in the historic Wilhelminian villa – as a metaphor for architecture.
